10 Writing Prompts about Kindness for Middle School

Ah, middle school. A time full of kindness, compassion, empathy . . . wait, is that not your experience? 🤪

Yeah, middle school can be a rough time. Everyone is trying to figure out who they are and how they relate to others . . . and the hormones definitely don’t help!

That’s why it’s so important for us as teachers to promote kindness in our middle school classrooms.

One way we can do this? With kindness-themed writing prompts. Here are just a few!

10 Writing Prompts about Kindness for Middle School:

1️⃣ If you had to choose between being intelligent or being kind, which would you choose and why?

2️⃣ Who is the kindest person you have ever met? What are a few examples of things they have done differently from the average person?

3️⃣ Write a dialogue between two people: one who believes kindness is a weakness, and one who believes it’s a strength. What do they learn from each other?

4️⃣ Is it more important to be kind to others or to yourself? Explain.

5️⃣ Imagine your school adds a new rule to the student handbook: each student is required to do one act of kindness per day. Describe how the school changes in a month . . . and how one student surprises everyone.

6️⃣ If kindness were an object, which object would it be? Explain the similarities between this object and the idea of kindness.
